Friends

My college roomies came to visit this past weekend. We shared a room senior year. Between the four of us, we have six amazing little girls. We couldn't have asked for a nicer weekend! The girls LOVED playing together. Mady organized a show and the older girls played along. They showed off their dance moves and creativity- it's so cool to get a preview of the things that Penny will be doing in the coming months! Mady and Ella go to dance class and it was so much fun to see what they've been learning. Penny had fun sharing her swing set with her friends. She usually rides the tire swing by herself and I can tell you from the size of her smiles- it was tons more fun with her friends! Myah and Ella were such good sports- they let us go slow at first so Penny could get used to spinning before we picked up speed! Penny has a ways to go in learning how to share. She does good sharing with the older girls, but when Leah wanted to get in on the action, Penny had a hard time sharing her toys. Luckily, Leah was the happiest little lady and didn't seem to mind. And, by the end of Sunday, Penny was saying "Share Leah" and seemed to be making progress in the sharing department.

Penny learned a few things from Myah. Since their visit, Penny has been doing much better with the stairs to the slide and is sliding down on her own with no fear! She learned so many amazing things by watching her friends play.

Miss Lily is the smallest of the bunch. She was an absolute doll baby! She hardly made a peep and rewarded us with these amazing smiles :)

The girls had fun eating together. Penny felt like such a big kid sitting at the table! And, when it was time for bed, we read some stories and said some prayers to thank God for our amazing friendships. I LOVE that our girls are growing up together and hope that they'll all be friends in college, just like their mommies!

After everyone left, Penny continued to talk about the fun we had. I love that she calls the girls "Penny friends." She has been having fun looking at the photos with me and has been reminding me that she wants to share and play with each of the girls. I couldn't ask for better friends and am so excited that we'll get to watch our girls grow up together! Thanks ladies! LOVE YOU!!!!

19 Months

She's 19 months old. Absolute craziness! She keeps us on our toes. She's got big opinions. Her favorite song is Twinkle Twinkle and she's starting to sing along with her music. She sings parts of "Yankee Noodle" (we're working on the doodle part), Row Row Row Your Boat, I've Been Working on the Railroad and She'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain, along with others. She has a favorite Elmo CD for the car and her favorite songs on that CD are Splish Splash and the ABC's. She has a special love for Elmo and even named one of her fish "Elmo Fish".
Her memory is amazing. She knows every one's name at school. When I pick her up, she likes to name everyone on the playground and all the teacher's too. She knows our neighbor's names and loves to shout their names as they drive down the street. This weekend, out of the blue, she told me she was going to share mac & cheese and her jeep with Luke because she remembered sharing those things during his visit two weeks ago. Yesterday, when Penny woke up, we saw a baby deer munching on grass in the front yard. This morning, she wanted to go look for the baby deer. I know they're just little things, but she amazes me with what she remembers!

She is my best shopping buddy! As we walk through the fruit and veggie department, we name the produce. Her favorite name is squash and saying the word puts her into a fit of giggles. Needless to say, she's a hit with the senior citizens in the store! I've never had so much fun grocery shopping.

She's very interested in looking at pictures. Lucky for her, I've taken a few. If we're stuck waiting somewhere, we flip through the pictures on my phone and she talks about all the fun adventures we've had.
At dinner time, she's eating with a spoon and a fork. We've recently started eating cheerios with milk and she has a blast trying to get every last drop of milk onto her spoon. She's been a little picky with foods lately- it's hard to get her to try new things these days, but we're working on it. She still loves ravi's, mac & cheese and fruit.
She is a helper in the kitchen. She loves to help me make banana bread and waffles. She knows that when we crack eggs we need to wash our hands and loves to help measure and mix.
Our bedtime routine is getting smoother and she's generally sleeping well. She loves to read books before bed. Aunt Becky gave her some Penelope books about a little bear named Penelope- Penelope in Winter, Penelope on the Farm, Penelope Goes to School. They have tabs to pull and Penny loves these books. She pronounces her name "Pen-A-Pea". It's super cute!

We're getting a bit of attitude these days. Tonight at dinner, when I asked her to finish, she stuck her fingers in her ears. We've found that distraction is still the best form of discipline. We've tried time out, which consists of us sitting on the step with her and talking about what just happened and why we shouldn't do it, and she loves it. She asks to go in time out as soon as she does something not-so-nice (usually at dinner time when she is tired...she's recently thrown food and tried to tip her chair back by putting her stinky little feet up on the table). We tell her we're sad that she's not being nice and show her how to correct the behavior. And, it seems to be working. We'll keep trying. And, we know we'll have to adapt our discipline as she grows and learns.

We're having a blast at 19 months. We can't wait to see what she learns in the next few months! And, we can't wait for the holiday's to come :)

State Park

There is a state park close to our home. For some reason, we'd never visited until this weekend. We found an amazing playground! Penny spent some time at the tot lot. Her favorite part was walking up the steps to these steering wheels, pretending to drive, and then walking back down. She did it about a dozen times. She saw the big kids playing on the other side of the playground and wanted to head over. Even though she's not quite ready for the equipment on that side, she tried to show us what a big girl she is! She had fun hanging out with Daddy! She even tried the big girl slide! Definitely bigger than our slide at home. During our trip we saw some deer and some dogs who were visiting with other park patrons. We saw people riding horses on the trails, a few skydivers parachuting above the trees and a group of men playing cricket. It was definitely and interesting trip and we can't wait to go back!

Happy Grandparent's Day 2011!

I'm a few days late here, so please don't think we've forgotten. Penny is one lucky girl. She's got the most amazing grandparents and we're so thankful for everything they do for our family!

Penny loves Grammy & Pa. She looks forward to her Sunday video chat's with them! She loves to tell them all about her week and put on a show. She get so excited when she talks to them! And, she loves to leave them video mail on the computer. I think she says the same thing every time she records a message for them, but she loves to do it again and again, telling them hi and "love you too". Grammy & Pa, thank you so much for being such an important part of Penny's life! And, for teaching us new things all the time! We are so lucky!

Penny loves Nana and Papa!

Penny is so lucky to have you here when she needs you. If it's a sick day during busy time at work or a weekend where we need a little help, we know you'll be there and we are truly thankful. Even if I've taught her to say "no no Papa" when she is done with tickles, you know she loves it! And, napping with Nana...who doesn't love that. Thank you Nana and Papa for everything you do!

To celebrate Grandparent's Day 2011, Penny did some finger painting for her grandparents. Do you think she had fun?

I think so!
We love you Grammy, Pa, Nana and Papa! We are so thankful for everything that you do for our amazing Penny!

Knoebels

Nana and Papa took us to Knoebels over Labor day weekend to celebrate Papa's birthday :) Penny had a blast on her first trip to an amusement park! Thankfully, we were there before these rains came- the park is flooded today :( Penny liked riding just about every ride that we could go on with her. She is still too small to ride the kiddie rides alone and let us know when we tried to let her ride the kiddie boats. She wasn't a fan of the ball pit either. But put her in any type of car ride, and girlfriend drove and drove to her heart's content. She had fun playing with Nana and Papa! One of her favorite rides was the antique car ride, just like Aunt Missy!Penny and the crew :)And, my favorite part of the day, the Grand Carousel! I LOVE the Carousel at Knoebel's. It's one of the few brass ring carousel's in the country. Penny can't catch the rings yet, but she rode one of the inside horses and had a blast!
